Organs | Kladruby
The organ in the monastic church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary in Kladruby is in many respects one of the most impressive European Baroque instruments. Two completely unique organs were built here by the Loket organ-maker Johann Leopold Burkhardt in 1726-28. The smaller choir organ is today located in the All Saints church at the Prague Castle. The design of the organ prospects and the whole church, in the style of the so-called Baroque Gothic, is due to the brilliant architect Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel. The concept of this organ, regarding both its architecture and its sound, is quite unique to the Kladruby organ. It features one of the first detached consoles and the broken octave in the manuals. The disposition of the organ is equally unique. On the main engine, we only find the Principal set and the 16-foot Coppelbass, while the positive includes a complete multi-coloured palette of 8-foot and 4-foot stops, in addition to three aliquot stops.
